To enliven the 76th National Electricity Day, Institut Teknologi PLN inaugurated a laboratory that can further support learning and tangible forms of ITPLN’s contribution in preparing future alternative energy derived from biomass fuel and waste. The event was held offline and online on Friday, October 29, 2021, at 09.30 WIB to 11.30 WIB and took place in the ITPLN Generating Room, 2nd Floor.

The event was attended by Mr. Wiluyo Kusdwiharto as Director of Mega Projects and New renewable energy of PT PLN (Persero), Chairman of YPK PLN Mr. Supriyadi, Management of YPK PLN, GM of PT PLN Pusertif Mr. Septa Hamid, Chairman of the Indonesian Biomass Energy Society Mr. Djoko Winarno, Leaders of Universities who are members of the BUMN Higher Education Alliance (APERTI BUMN), Representative of the Head of PT PLN Group, PT Indonesia Power, LS Electric, PT DEI, Dinas Bina Marga Prov. Jakarta. As well as from the PLN Institute of Technology which was attended by the Rector of ITPLN Prof. Dr. Ir. Iwa Garniwa., MK, MT, Dean of the Faculty of Energy Technology and Business (FTBE) Mr. Drs. Prayudi, MM., MT, ITPLN Management, and the Academic Community.

With the combination of Biomass and Waste Gasification Laboratory, other laboratories at ITPLN such as PLTU Mini and Waste to Energy Center can become a cycle of future energy sources, and can also be a solution for waste reduction. The Waste to Energy Center produces briquettes from waste as fuel for the Biomass and Waste Gasification laboratory which is then converted into electricity at the Mini Power Plant.

In his remarks, Mr. Wiluyo Kusdwiharto conveyed the Development of NRE Generation in achieving a 23% Mix and Progress Cofiring starting from the 2021 road map and the 2022 plan, Green Energy 580 GWh Biomass 630 thousand tons and 45 implementation locations. Mr. Wiluyo expressed his appreciation related to ITPLN’s participation in the development of Biomass and Waste Gasification. Because this is in line with PLN’s cofiring program and later Institut Teknologi PLN can collaborate with PT PLN’s subsidiaries such as PT Indonesia Power and PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali. Mr. Wiluyo also hope that in the future, ITPLN can contribute knowledge in terms of renewable energy not only biomass but also about voltage, batteries, wind, and seawater power.

Meanwhile, Mr. Supriyadi expressed his appreciation and congratulated ITPLN for continuing to transform to prepare superior human resources for Indonesia’s future.

After the event in the Generating Room was completed, the event continued with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a visit at the Biomass and Waste Gasification Laboratory FTBE ITPLN as well as a simulation of the work in the laboratory. Then, a visit to the MINI PLTU laboratory, and the event ended with a visit to the Waste to Energy Center to see the process of making waste pellets.

Hopefully, with the existence of the Biomass and Waste Gasification Laboratory, it can become a field of knowledge for the ITPLN Academic Community, because there are so many things that can be researched and become new scientific characteristics in the academic field.
